Enviornmental Sketch

My environmental sketch was about a snowy mountain and a climber that is hiking up the mountain. I learned how to correctly use sensory description and figurative language in this piece. The biggest challenge of this assignment was that I had to make sure that I included all five senses in my writing. I had great success in creating a picture of a frozen mountainside. I was very happy with my examples of figurative language in this assignment and I chose to write about a frozen mountainside because I had hiked a cold mountain in North Carolina a year ago.
Character Sketch

My character sketch was about a character named Wigglart, a brutal Saxon warrior. When writing this piece, I learned how to create a character from scratch and how to use descriptive and figurative language correctly when addressing a character and his or her actions. The challenge of this assignment was to create a character spine for my character. I choose to write about a Saxon warlord because we had just read the Warlord Chronicles in English class. I did have lots of success on this assignment though, as I was proud with my story by the time I had finished it.
Personal Narrative

This personal narrative piece centers around the time that my friends and I boxed each other. When writing my personal narrative, I learned how to accurately describe a real life experience and how to correctly format a narrative essay. This essay had the big challenge of accurately depicting a personal narrative, and because the story happened about a year and a half ago, it was hard to remember all of the details. I succeed in accurately telling the reader about the time I boxed my friend in his driveway.
Fictional Narrative

This fictional narrative piece centers around a post-apocalyptic scenario that centers around a desert trip gone wrong. I learned how to correctly write a fictional piece and how to use a character sheet to create a character's attributes and their "spine." The biggest challenge of writing this was to think of an idea about what to write about for my fictional narrative. I was able to succeed in formatting my story correctly. I chose to write about an apocalyptic scenario for my fictional narrative because I like the idea of writing a story about survival.
Poetry Pieces

For the Poetry Pieces, I included five pieces of poetry. I included three Haiku, an Extended Metaphor poem, an assonance poem, a ballad, and a synesthesia poem. I learned about many different styles of poetry while writing this piece and about many different ways to format poetry. The greatest challenge that I had while creating this piece was about how to create a ballad with an abcb rhyme scheme while also trying to use iambic pentameter. I was successful in creating five poetry pieces that all matched the criteria of each style of poetry that I was aiming for.
Student's Choice Piece

For my student's choice writing piece, I wrote a story that is supposed to be a take on the end of the school year. This was written in the prose of fictional narrative and I learned how to use figurative language properly and how to correctly fix mechanical errors, as there were a lot in the rough draft. The greatest challenge that I had while writing this piece was fixing the grammatical errors of my rough draft. I was successful in using good transitions and figurative language. I choose to write about an apocalyptic scenario about the end of the school year because it seemed like a great topic to choose for the last essay of the school year.
